To create a series of annual festivals which will provide a major
platform for and increase public awareness of the rich and varied
cultural heritage of the countries of The Commonwealth
• Plan:
The festivals will be a major projection of the Commonwealth arts and Culture, featuring music, dance, theatre and cinema. Painting, sculpture, literature, photography, crafts, costume and fashion would be represented in associated exhibitions, workshops, lectures, readings and master classes.
• Funding and Benefits:
It is proposed to seek funding for the festivals from the Commonwealth governments and institutions, private sector industry and commerce.
The major benefits to respective governments are to place on a world platform their diverse heritage, artistic excellence, and cultural identities.
There would be associated benefits in education, skill development and tourism.
Benefits to private sector concerns of festival sponsorship will be to exhibit:
• Corporate care for and involvement with Commonwealth countries
• Linkage and support for specific art forms in Commonwealth countries, for example, through scholarships and master classes, visiting professorships and traditional arts support
